Implementation Update #63

Implementation Update #63 has been posted to the DMH web page. Please forward this information on to anyone in your organization who may be interested.

New Public Service Campaign

BringChange2Mind - new Public Service Campaign
http://www.bringchange2mind.org/

"1 in 6 adults and almost 1 in 10 children suffer from a diagnosable mental illness. Yet, for many, the stigma associated with the illness, can be as great a challenge as the disease itself. This is where the misconceptions stop. This is where bias comes to an end. This is where we change lives. Because this is where we Bring Change 2 Mind."

BringChange2Mind.org is a not-for-profit organization created by Glenn Close, the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation (CABF), Fountain House, and Garen and Shari Staglin ofIMHRO (International Mental Health Research Organization).

The idea of a national anti-stigma campaign was born of a partnership between Glenn Close and Fountain House, where Glenn volunteered in order to learn about mental illness, which both her sister and nephew suffer from.

BRINGCHANGE2MIND's Mission is twofold:

1. provide people with misconceptions about mental illness quick and easy access to information that combats stigma

2. provide people with mental illness, and those who know them, quick and easy access to information and support

This is the first effort of this magnitude in U.S. history. Ron Howard generously donated his time in directing our first PSA that features Glenn Close and her sister, Jessie Close. John Mayer generously donated his song, Say, which serves as an anthem for this movement.

The campaign has the support of major mental health organizations, including
Active Minds, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), International Mental Health Research Organization (IMHRO), the Jed Foundation, Mental Health America (MHA), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), NARSAD, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

LME Survey

URGENT SURVEY REQUEST

LMEs across the state have been provided with information on their reduction in funding as of September 8, 2009.  They have been asked to provide the Division with their service's plan by October 5, 2009 for the Division's review.

We need to hear from the members of NCARF to find out if your LMEs have already taken action on services or funding reduction and what this has meant to your organization.

If you have already had reductions in either funding or services for the 2009/2010 year from your LME, please complete this quick survey, if you have not already done so.

We will re-survey in the next 6 weeks to further assess the impact of budget cuts throughout the state.
