President of ECVC Receives Milt Cohen Leadership Award

dan le rouxMr. Daneel le Roux was recently notified that he is the recipient of the NISH 2009 Milt Cohen Leadership Award. The MiltCohen award recognizes an individual, from a nonprofit agency, working within the AbilityOne Program who has demonstrated national leadership on behalf of that program. Le Roux was recognized with this National Leadership Award in recognition of his dedication to the employment of people with disabilities since 1982 when he came to ECVC.

ECVC  began operations in 1965 as The Eastern Carolina Sheltered Workshop and Vocational Rehabilitation Center, Inc. There were 4 staff members and 27 clients. When Daneel le Roux was hired as president in 1982, he began the process of turning the nonprofit into a self-sustained company with the social mission of "helping people with disabilities attain a higher quality of life through achievement of their vocational goals." This was attained with ECVC seeking and being awarded federal contracts of which the company currently has ten. ECVC is currently the largest supplier of batteries to the United States military.

NISH is a national nonprofit agency whose mission is to create employment opportunities for people with severe disabilities by securing Federal contracts through the AbilityOne Program for its network of community-based, nonprofit agencies.  The organization maintains operational and regulatory oversight of these contracts for over 1000 Community Rehabilitation Programs similar to ECVC.
